Just a quick post to say that it looks now as if the World’s End shop will be closed until much further into November.
Whilst the shop is closed it is still possible to buy items through mail order on firstname.lastname@example.org & I have just been told that for within the UK the postage will not be charged for these items. Happy Shopping!
The Worlds End shop has not been open this week as at last a major refurbishment is under way.
Apologies for not giving any advance notice but the decision to close came on us suddenly. The reason for this refurbishment is rather interesting.
We have now acquired the basement space to number 430.
Anyone who has ever been to the shop will know that there has always been a restaurant next door. The longest running one was called Osteria (this was here before Let It Rock opened & is now in Clapham High St).
The new space will not be used for retail. Instead an office, storage space & room for the mail order side of things will be incorporated here. Also a new changing room & at last a toilet!.
This will create a lot more space on the shop floor itself & will allow for some major changes here too although don’t worry, the shop is still keeping its original pirate ship theme.
Work is expected to last for the rest of October & into November maybe.
In the meantime the mail order side of business is still in operation on:
(& of course I will still be posting on this site & will keep you informed)
During the Scottish referendum last week my mother Vivienne said something controversial (again).
She said that she hated England. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/the-great-british-break-up-the-live-debate/4od#3761640
I want to explain that this is not a spur of the moment outburst from her.
Anyone who is a Punk or knows about the Punk movement in the 1970’s will (or should) know that that was the focal point of her & their anger at the time.
The music & the fashion has changed since then (boring if it didn’t) but the political standpoint has not. Vivienne is a true Punk……& don’t you forget it!
The cause of this anger is that although England is a small country it is the cause of a lot of injustice & damage in the broader world, both in past history & also today.
England is a major wrecker of the planet & its people.
In fact when Punk first started in the1970’s English democracy was better than it is today. At least there were trade unions & politically different political parties to vote for. Today unions have been ‘gelded’ & the political parties are exactly the same as each other. They are either Conservative or else ‘New Conservative’ (which is what the Labour party should be called).
Now as in the 70’s Vivienne hopes that young people can & will fight against injustice. Her major hope lies with them….You!
‘A survey, commissioned by Conservative peer Lord Ashcroft, said 71% of 16 to 17-year-olds voted for Scotland to be independent and 29% voted against’
(The 18 to 24 year olds must have been listening to their parents)
The reason that Vivienne hoped that the Scots would vote for independence is that she sees the ‘Yes’ vote as a vote for ‘People Power’.
45% of the Scots did vote for this & it is a shame that it was not possible this time to escape from the unjust tentacles of English politics……
Recent additions to World’s End shop include a new colour for the squiggle shirt, this time in a chocolate brown with the squiggle in gold. The back panel of this shirt is not in the usual arrow print but in the same fabric as the front. This is not the first time that this has been done (I have an original orange with red squiggle print from the Savages collection which is the same).
Also in the shop is a new North American Indian print shirt. This does have the arrow print back & is a copy of the 1980’s original in a white & blue with red lines (see ‘Old Favourite’ post).
The model is Alex.
The shirts are 100% cotton & both retail for £160.00
